John Juanda was finally triumphant over Stanislav Alekhin in a WSOPE final table that lasted a record setting twenty-two hours. On the final four-hundred and eighty-fourth hand, Alekhin pushed all-in before the flop with an unsuited A-9 and was called by Juanda holding the K-6 of spades. The flop came 6-6-2 with Juanda flopping an almost perfect set. The turn brought a Q which left Alekhin drawing dead. And to cap an already mind boggling final table, the remaining 6 fell on the river giving Juanda quads and earning him his fourth WSOP bracelet.
Congratulations to both players.
My head’s just KILLING me this morning so this won’t be a long winded attempt at editorializing, but here it goes. The WSOPE’s final table is set up to be a great game all around. You have names like Juanda, Negreanu, Fischman, along with a member of the “November Nine”, the delayed final table of the WSOP. Negreanu, who missed out on making to the final table of this year’s WSOP should be looking for redemption as well as solidifying his name as one of the greatest poker players ever. Will this be his event?. Only time will tell as the battle gets underway over in Europe.
Here’s how the final table looks…
Seat 1: Robin Keston 849,000
Seat 2: Daniel Negreanu 1,002,000
Seat 3: Chris Elliott 281,000
Seat 4: Bengt Sonnert 385,000
Seat 5: John Juanda 1,349,000
Seat 6: Ivan Demidov 1,006,000
Seat 7: Toni Hiltunen 386,000
Seat 8: Scott Fischman 732,000
Seat 9: Stanislav Alekhin 1,278,000
Welcome to Darn River: A Poker Player’s Blog. I’m keeping this entry short, but I wanted to introduce you all to my new blog. If you’re curious as to why the introductory post is coming after a few others, it’s because I was fortunate enough to be able to transfer my blog over to an actual domain, hence the fresh start. I’m really looking forward to running with this and I hope to hear back from all of you out there checking it out.
Far too much poker with far too many absurdly confusing amateurs. I need to go clear my head and get back to the real world…
