Month Update

Sorry i haven’t posted for a couple days.  October is starting out pretty well.  Sunday i lost like $4 but the rest of the month were positive days.  Not great days, but at least I am not digging myself a hole like September.

I have been putting some time into double stack tournaments on PokerStars.  I feel this stack and blind size is complimentary to my game.  The payout structures could be better in these, but you have to take the sweet with the sour when ordering takeout.

September recap

A very rocky month is now over.  August and September both started with poor play and a hole I had to dig out of.  August, I dug in spectacular fashion, September I clawed and dragged myself to +$300.  I am happy to have regained some ability but the negative slides need to stop.  Poor play is unacceptable.

I know what was wrong early in September.  It seems I was searching out coin flip situations instead of waiting until I was the big favorite.  Anyway, a new month.  I have been playing some more than usual on PokerStars, and it is there that I hit a big enough score to go positive for the month.  I will see how that goes in October.

Slow Gains

I seem to be cashing in tournaments quite nicely.  sadly, I am barely cashing.  Oh well, its a start.  Not a lot to report except that I seem to be staying up till 6 am lately so when I say “yesterday”, its really some of today.

Nine tournaments, one ring game.  I cashed 5 of 9 tournaments and doubled my stack in the cash game.  Total for the day +$54.  Not a big score for cashing so many, especially since $25 of that was in the cash game.  Having experienced it most of September, I can tell you it still beats the pants off losing.

Sleepy Breakout

So, last night/morning about 1:30 am I decided that I wanted to play some stud games.  I found a 7stud hi/lo and a razz to play on Full Tilt.  those games can be kind of slow on the action, so as not to be bored I added a bounty on Cake and a little doublestack $3 NLHE on PokerStars.

I ran fairly well in both stud games.  i think i was just outside the money in both.  The usual for lately, play hard, play long, get nothing.  The bounty I managed to get $2 of $6 back and then i was toast.  By this time I am already in the “money” on PokerStars.  I figure, “well if I can stick around some, maybe I can pay for the other three.

Seven grueling, tired hours later I busted out in 5th place for $371.  This pays off all the terrible September play and puts me up $250 for the month.  A far cry from August but at least I am out of the hole and feeling good about poker again.

Bail Out!

Saturday did not go very well.  I played a very limited buyin schedule because I had four miniftops challenge freerolls to play as well.  Sadly, no buyin panned out and I think I got $2 from one of the freerolls.  Saturday’s total was -$34.

Not wanting to spiral downward after Friday’s limited success, I mostly watched football on Sunday.  I did play the three miniftops challenge freerolls and the Reefer Poker community freeroll.  This is a $3k freeroll that they hold monthly if you are a member of their forums.  Last month I banked $200 from it, so I was anticipating this game again.

The Reefer game did not go well, nor did the first two miniftops games.  I was stuck playing the last freeroll without much prospect of a payday it seemed.  But fate smiled on my freeroll skills.  When the final table went heads up, we made a deal where I gave my opponent $12 of the first place money to not have to play it out.  I had a pretty big chip lead.  So a no buyin day with few prospects turned into a +$104 day.

Making a final table in a 900 player tournament was good for the confidence too.

A Sliver of Light

My mood had gotten so bad, a.k.a being a horrible poker player, that I had to stop posting for a few days.  That does not mean the losing stopped, but the hope was that changing up the routine might change my results.

Thankfully, there is a glimmer of hope.  Friday I managed to play 8 tournaments.  I won 2 of the private Holdem Poker Chat tournaments and got 4th in a Bodog 15 Days anniversary game.  Total for the day +$121.87.

This is , hopefully, a harbinger of things to come and not just a lucky result amid a storm of failure.  Time will have to be the judge of that, but at least the doom and gloom has lifted, albeit briefly.

Chips everywhere

Chips everywhere but in my stack.  My remarkable run of negative results just continues, mitigated only by my restraint in playing less.  Sadly, I am mumbling to myself about the correct play in certain situations when not playing.  Eight negative days in a row is not something I am used to.

I am approaching -$200 for the month.  I can’t remember when I had a negative month.  Definitely need something to give and get on the right track

Whether I am playing horribly or just running into poor luck, it no longer really matters to me.  I managed to drop -$151 over the weekend in the marathon, sports bets and some other games.  The marathon was horrendous.  The bad beats were tru7ly bad but the dumb moves may have been worse.  I can’t tell yet, still too close to the event.  I cashed in one whole marathon event.  The Absolute Poker $11 buyin for a whopping $39.  Bad week, bad month.  Just all bad.

Mostly I did CM (Crushingly Mundane) all day yesterday.  I played some poker, but nothing serious.   I wound up -$4.68 for the day, but was not really trying.

One thing I discovered is the Sportsbook Poker NFL Primetime ring games.   Play in these, get fpp’s and qualify for some pretty sweet freerolls.  Weekly $10k freerolls and an end of the month $30k freeroll.  A lot more points in 10 days for me to get in the big one, so expect more cash games in the report.

Except for a few of those, I will probably just chill till the marathon

Nothing to see, Move along.

I hardly played yesterday, but when I did, I played poorly.  Another day, another wager bailing out poker.  I plan to take it easy on the poker front and rest up for the 24 Hour Poker Marathon coming this weekend.  My play has been sub-par, and that needs fixing anyway.  A little introspection for a couple days couldn’t hurt.

Six tournaments, one ring game and one wager bailout -8.13 for the day.

Personal life stuff today.  if I play it won’t be much.
